This video is to aid you in troubleshooting and clearing an error in the turnover prevention system of your SPYDERCRANE®.
The most common reason for a code 17 failure is that somebody presses the zero reset button, located inside this hole, while the crane is down on the outriggers. This causes the error in the turnover prevention system, turns the alarm on, and you get the beeping. There is no reason that you should push that button in the course of normal crane operations.
There are four indications of an error in the turnover prevention system:
The boom down, winch up, or extend functions do not work. The audible alarm beeps rapidly. A red error light illuminates on the load cell amplifier. The number 17 displays on the control box — causing this error to commonly be referred to as the code 17 error.
To clear the code 17 error, you must first use the crane's override switch to safely store the boom and retract all of the outriggers. The crane override switch may be found on the back of the control panel. To prevent damage to the equipment and personnel, use of the crane override switch is strictly prohibited during normal operation of the crane, and should be used only to return the crane to its stowed position.
Once the boom is stowed and the outriggers are retracted, ensure the ignition is on and the crane is in crane mode. Press and hold the zero reset button on the load cell amplifier for approximately five seconds. While the load cell amplifier is rebooting, the alarm will stop and all of the lights on the amplifier will go out.
If the reset is successful:
The alarm will sound a solid tone. The load cell amplifier green run light will be on. All four outrigger lights on the load cell amplifier will be flashing orange in unison. The control box will display code 15.
At this point, 95% of you are done watching this video and your crane can resume normal operation.
Hard Reset Procedure
However, if the load cell amplifier is still showing a red error light, continue with the hard reset procedure.
First, ensure that your ignition is on and the crane is in crane mode, with the boom stowed and outriggers retracted. Access the load cell amplifier by removing the panel on the crane that has the zero reset decal. Remove the entire load cell amplifier bracket assembly from the crane and unscrew the lid of the load cell amplifier. Find the small button labeled PSW1 inside the load cell amplifier.
Push and hold the PSW1 button slightly before pressing the zero reset button. Hold both for approximately five seconds. The alarm will stop and all of the lights on the amplifier will go out while the load cell amplifier reboots.
If the hard reset is successful, after the reboot:
The alarm will sound a solid tone. The green status light on the load cell amplifier will be on. The control box will display code 15. All four orange outrigger lights will flash in unison.
You may now resume normal operations.
If the hard reset was not successful, you may have a more complex error in the turnover prevention system. Please call your SPYDERCRANE supplier for troubleshooting assistance.
